(6-30-2009) Sacramento, CA – It was a scorcher in Sacramento last weekend for freshman Pro Mod racer Marc Meadors and the Goodguys Racing ’69 Camaro. Making his return to competition with the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association, Meadors and the Goodguys Racing crew were looking for their second win of the season at the 33rd annual Nitro Night of Fire and had to roll the dice to do it.

After making a motor-wounding 6.37 @ 223 test run Friday, the team missed Firday’s opening round of qualifying leaving them with a one-shot, qualify-or-go-home run on Saturday afternoon in 107 degree heat! The silver Camaro streaked to a 6.354 @ 227.9 to grab the 3rd position in the 8-car program.

In Saturday evening’s eliminations, a confident Meadors dispatched the nitrous-breathing Corvette of the Ballance Bros with a 6.42 @ 226 to a 6.52 @ 213. Up next was Rod Burbage’s big cubic inch screw-blown ’58 Corvette in a semi final showdown. With the mercury reading 105 degrees and the altitude at a vexing 3,100 feet, Meadors left too early knowing he had to get out first in order to overcome the number 2 qualifier. Burbage’s ‘Vette took the win 6.25 @ 231.57 to Meadors 6.315 @ 229.24 – a career best run for the Goodguys racing team.

With a solid semi-final showing, a career best run in less than ideal conditions and a win at the Super Chevy Show in Fontana earlier this season, it’s safe to say the Goodguys Racing Team has officially arrived in the Pro Mod ranks. “I’m proud of this team,” Meadors beamed. “We run a small cubic inch motor (451ci BAE) and we’ve only been racing together as a team for about 6 months now. Crew Chief Jason Bunker (LHP Racing) along with Jeff Accacian, ‘Six Pound’ Billy Fereira and Andy Fereira do an awesome job out there. They do it for the love of the thrash. We also had camera man Ken Stanfel with Xtreme Performance Images, www.GoCyberSpeed.com was with us last weekend who shot some amazing in-car footage and took some great pictures. We are going to be heard from a lot this summer and fall.” Many thanks for all the sponsors that help this team Goodguys Rod & Custom Association, Red Line Oil and Comp Cams.

Up next for the Goodguys Racing ’69 Camaro is the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association’s “Fox Hunt” held at Sacramento Raceway on August 14-15. For more news, photos and video, visit www.MeadorsRacing.com
